Kursens upplägg bygger på tre andra ledarskapsprogram. Det lokala LDP programmet som Makerere har utvecklat, BMJ/KI kursen som ges på KI och en annan kurs som ges på Harvard. På detta sätt har en hybrid skapats som är anpassad till Makerere och dess kontext.
Kursen bestod av en blanding av didaktiska och interaktiva inslag vilket gav utrymme för deltagarnas egna reflektioner. Detta uppskattades mycket.
Ingen formell examination utfördes men deltagarna fick uppgifter som relaterade till det aktuella undervisningsämnet och beroende på undervisningsform planerades olika uppgifter som de skulle förhålla sig till, fundera över eller finna lösningar till.
Deltagarna kom från flera av Makereres schools (School of Medicine, School of Public Health och School of Biomedical Sciences) samt HR avdelningen vilket bidrog till en interprofessionell kultur. Alla var genuint intresserade och bidrog till erfarenhetsutbyte. Schema för de tre dagarna finns nedan. Dag 2 & 3 började med återkoppling från föregående dag mellan 8.30-9.00.
Genom utvärderingen fick vi återkoppling på att kursen var mycket uppskattad (tabell 2), ögonöppnare, vissa ville att den skulle ges årligen och att mer tid behövdes för delar av innehållet. Några citat från deltagarna: "This is a very good program that may need to be given more days thatn three days" "Everybody needs these leadership skills in order to carry Makerere forward", "The leaders of the department need to attend this program in order to be managers who lead", "the sessions were higly interactive so it was not more of imposing but participation on an individual basis and that can only be great for learning".
