Arrival and registration

The introductions days were really good, the professors gave us a lot of information about how the subject and the rotations in the hospital works, which I think it is quite interesting because every hospital has its own rules.

Also, on my first day I went to check for the MRSA and the contact with the student health centre work was really efficient, as well as the results.

Acommendation

My accomodation was great in all senses. The room is perfect for one person, specially I think it is really important to have the bathroom inside the room.

I applied through the UAC. The cost of the accomodation it is quite expensive but as I know, it is suitable for the country, Sweden.

Leisure time and social activities

I did not take part in the social programmes.

Pre-departure

Since I began to study medicine in the university I wanted to go on an exchange programe because I think it is a different way to learn and have a great experience in all senses.

As a lot of people know, KI is one of the most well-known institutions in Europe and I was really curious about how the system works, the attention of the patients, the interaction between the doctors and the students...

I think it was quite good, although it is known that all the administration paperwork it takes a long time and sometimes it is a little bit confusing.

The programe in the KI is really good and you can find plenty of information about each clinical rotation and subjects.

I was required to be vaccinated.

Courses during the exchange period

D10X01 : Clinical medicine-emphasis on reproduction and development
This course was great because we did a lot of clinical rotation and also theorical lessons in order to improve our knowledge. Also we were allowed to see every sub-department in pediatrics and gynecology/obstetrics, even night-shifts. The examination was correct one, clinical cases, because it was like a real situation, real life.
ELAX20 : Inflammatory Diseases
it was an interesting rotation because I was able to see and know the most common inflammatory diseases and also discuss different patients, as a real doctor. The professors were really nice and they tried to help us in everything. The examination was the correct one.

Summary

I like the swedish system, the way that doctors work and the efficiency. Everybody was nice and helpful. And as a medical student, I learned a lot.

It was a really great experience, I enjoyed it a lot and I am sure that if I had the change to do it again, I would do it without any doubt.

Language and Culture

I did the first course of Swedish, for beginners. We learned the basic things and sentences and also medical language for our rotation.

Studies in general

Study in the KI is a great experience. The relationship with the doctors (teachers) were really close and you were be able to discuss everything with them, or even contact for some problems.

Related to the patient, it was hard for me sometimes, because you need to speak swedish with them but the doctors translate everything after the consultation.

I learned how to react in front of emergency situations, the most common disease and essential information and protocol to make a good clinical history and exploration.
