Exchange report - incoming students
Home university: Kobenhavns universitet
Study programme: Biomedicine
Exchange programme: Erasmus
Semester: Autumn semester 2011/2012

Arrival and registration

The arrival was fine. The introduction day was a bit confusion. You spend the introductionday with all new students but not with the other international students studying the same as you. I think it would be nice to get to know the the other students studying the same as you and not others you will not see again. That will also help on the first day with the class, when you know a few students.

Acommendation

I applied for accommodation through the UAC (university accommodation ceter). The cost for a room is a bit expensive, but the room was nice and everything one need for an exchange period is in the room (Bed, closet, desk, ect). The kitchen at the dorm I was staying was ok. There was almost no kitchenware, but that varied from kitchen to kitchen. The best with the accommodation the university can offer you is that it is mostly international students living there. It created a unique atmosphere and wonderful experiences with the other students living there which I would never be without.

Leisure time and social activities

I participated in most social activities, but there wasn't many. I did not have many social activities with Swedish students and if there was any, they more or less kept to them self. The information about social activities was ok when it came from International Friends. We got information by email. The events International Friends arranged was fun and different from other parties one could attend. I will recommend all social events arranged!

Pre-departure

I chose KI because of the good reputation, but also to know more about Sweden. I come from Copenhagen and didn't know that much about Sweden before I started at KI. Now I have a much better understanding of the country and the people. The information given was very useful and helpful in the process. Especially was the help with accommodation wonderful.

Courses during the exchange period

1BI012 : BACH-Molecular medicine
The course was very interesting. It gave a general idea of how the body works and how different diseases act. Though the course was really interesting I think that the level which was taught was not the same which was expected at the exam. It was much higher level at the exam which surprised a bit. But the overall impression of the course is very good. We ended the course with a trip to Tallinn where we presented a project. It was a good way to finish a project and everybody was focused.
1BI011 : BACH-Molecular oncology and biostatistics
Very good course. the balance between the theoretical part and the more practical part. The teaching and supervision was good. Over all a very nice course. It was especially interesting to have contact with the patients - It gave a better overall idea of what oncology is.

Summary

I had a wonderful exchange period at KI and will recommend it to everyone!

Language and Culture

I did not participate in any Swedish language courses.

Studies in general

The Swedish study environment is very different from what i am used to at Copenhagen University. The students did not seem to interfere with each other after class. Therefore, I did not have that many social contact with the Swedish students unfortunately. There was a few students which did take the time to talk to us international students, but the others kept a distance. I think it would be good to have more things which can get the international and Swedish students closer together from the beginning. We had a cheese and win evening with teachers and students which was wonderful!
