Exchange report - incoming students
Home university: Kobenhavns universitet
Study programme: Speech and Language Pathology
Exchange programme: Erasmus
Semester: Autumn semester 2012/2013

Arrival and registration

The student health centre was a good experience, the staff was really friendly and professional.

Acommendation

I applied for accomodation through the University Accommodation Center (UAC) and I got a room at Jägargatan 20 for the full stay (August - December)

The rooms are small, but contain basic furniture (bed, table, zink and closet) and I had a great view.

The kitchen and bathrooms are shared.

Jägargatan 20 is situated close to the city centre (Söderstation is just one stop from Stockholm central station, and you can go by Pendeltåg to Flemingsberg, if you, as I did, are going to study at Karolinska Huddinge)

Södermalm is a great area for shopping, dining, drinks aso.

Leisure time and social activities

I didn't participate in the social programmes provided for exchange students because I met a lot of good people at the university and at my dorm. I participated in "Innebandy" which was fun and very "swedish";-)

Pre-departure

I chose KI because the university has a great speech pathology programme, and because the students get more clinical education than at my home university.

Courses during the exchange period

2LG038 : Children and youth with speech disorders and dysphagia
A very educational course, we really learned a lot. The written examn was good, it matched the course and its contents. The course was a good preparation for the practical work in the clinic and the autism-centre in Stockholm.
2LG034 : General and specific medicine 4
Good introduction course, with an oral group examn.
2LG037 : Speech and language pathology practice and child observations 1
This was really good, I spent 5 weeks at a logoped studio working with the kids there and 3 weeks at the autism-centre in Stockholm.

Summary

My general impression of my semester at KI was very good. It is one of the best things I have done during my 4 years of education, and I would recommend everyone to go.

Language and Culture

I didn't participate in any Swedish language because I'm Danish ;-)

Studies in general

The students are motivated and hard working. The teachers put a lot of effort into the classes, and there are often lectures from "the real world". We had examns every 3-5 th. week, which was though, but educational, and it felt good to finish courses with an examn before starting a new course.
