Arrival and registration

The arrival and introduction day was great. We were given very clear directions where to go which was really helpful and had a lovely welcome to the college. The student health was good i contacted them once for information and they was pleasant and informative.

Acommendation

I applied for accomodation through UAC. My first impression on arrival was that the communal areas in the accommodation were very dirty but the bedroom was very clean and had everything that was required. The cost of accommodation was very good and the standard was good. I found however the corridor that i was living on and other corridors in the building were overcrowded. There was supposed to be 1 person per room but i found that people often were sharing rooms which meant there were extra people in the corridors and this lead to the communal areas being very untidy. The locks on the corridor doors in the building were often broken so from a security point of view it was not very safe. I didn't find the UAC very helpful as i have contacted they by email 5/6 times for the return of my deposit and i received 1 reply saying they were busy and i still haven't received my deposit back.

Leisure time and social activities

I did not participate in any activities. I was invited to a social event through the university but unfortunately was not able to attend due to college work. I made a Swedish friend she was also doing a project in the lab i was in.

Pre-departure

I choose to go on exchange as i wanted to experience living in a different country and i had been told by friends that sweden was a lovely country. I choose KI as a lot of students from DIT Biomedical science course had gone on exchange to KI previously and enjoyed their experience there. I received lots of information from both my home university and KI which was very useful during the exchange.

Courses during the exchange period

HBMAX1 : Literature Review Course (Lab Med)
Very good very relevant to the degree and research aspect.
1EE049 : Project work (Lab Med)
I liked the project and it was very interesting research.

Summary

I really enjoyed my exchange period in KI. The exchange coordinators were very helpful and the college facilities were very good.

Language and Culture

I did not have time to participate in a Swedish language course as there was a lot of work involved with the project.. Courses were offered which was very good.

Studies in general

I really enjoyed the Swedish study environment. exchange coordinators were very helpful. As i was doing a research project i didn't really have much contact with the teachers until the half time seminar. I think maybe there should be a seminar after 2 weeks of arriving to make sure students have settled in OK and this may help if student have any issues to discuss.
