Exchange report - incoming students
Home university: University of Toledo
Study programme: Occupational Therapy
Exchange programme: INK
Semester: Spring semester 2012/2013

Arrival and registration

I thought arrival arrangements were great. Global Friends is a wonderful service to use if you are studying in Sweden. I was greeted upon arrival by a student who helped me activate my mobile, buy a metro card, and find my apartment. He waited for 2 hours for me to arrive.

N/A is regards to health centre.

Acommendation

I thought it was very easy to apply for housing through UAC>I really enjoyed the dormitory where I lived. Management of housing was easy to access by e-mail and were willing to fix problems in my room. The cost of living seemed appropriate for a dormitory.

Leisure time and social activities

I received frequent e-mails from Global Friends about events set up for exchange studies, however, I did not attend any of the events because my fellow corridor mates were very warm and welcoming and I was able to make so great friends!

Pre-departure

I really regret not studying abroad during my undergraduate studies and I heard from all of my friends how much they benefited from studying abroad. Also, I wanted to learn more about healthcare outside of my home country. As far as my decision to attend KI, my home university has a contract with the Karolinska Institutet for my program of study. It is the only study abroad program option.
I thought that I was given an abundance of information about KI, accommodations, and Sweden. As far as vaccinations, I had to undergo a MRSA screening before commencement of my clinical rotation.

Courses during the exchange period

EAR001 : Clinical rotation 1 for exchange students - occupational theraphy
Did not complete any courses at KI, however the faculty was great and very welcoming.

Summary

Great experience at KI, Highly recommend. Only comment is make sure you save money. Sweden is expensive!

Studies in general

My study was a 4 week clinical rotation in Occupational Therapy which was completed at a hospital in Stockholm. I thought that both my contacts at KI and my supervisors at the hospital were great! They made the transition very easy and made me feel more confident in my abilities as a student.
