Accommendation

The accomodation at Varberg was very comfortable.I was given adequate information regarding the way to reach the accomodation and the guidance to have access to the assigned room.The room was very comfortable and also the fellow residents were extremely helpful.The kitchen arrangements and the utensils were very useful and made our living enjoyable and most memorable.The wifi connection was very useful.

Suggestion

As there was some troubble in the keyboard I could not get my room key on the first day.I could not get in touch with the incharge of housing.Since we had one of Indian lady participant as my neighbour I could stay with her that night and I am thankful for the same.It will be nice to make some arrangemnts to check whether the residents have occupied and comfortable as they  reach since the time of their arrival is already intimated.

 

In spite of this little problem I must say my stay was very comfortable,memorable and enjoyable.The recreational facilities at KI Housing made us relax and also there were many people staying at that time  which made us to interact and build up friendship. It was of course a home away from home. 

 

Language and Culture

The formal teaching happened in English both in clinicals and classroom.I didnot experience any problem with the language eventhough some students expressed in Swedish as there were people to translate.Swedish culture deserves apppreciation as they try to keep up their heritage.  

Leisure time

The time of our visit and stay was with suffient time for social activities.Though there was not much activities scheduled we were able to have time for social visits, and sight seeings.There was time of Assessions Day and weekends which made us to visit many places and muesuems and historic places.

The social gathering with the nursing faculty was very enjoyable and interactive.

As teachers from India along with two faculty from Physiotherapy dept, we were able to have a meaningful,fellowship with coordinators of both the groups,international coordinator and faculty.really a memorable evening and made us cheerish the time of fellowship in KI Housing,Varberg.

The recreational facilities at  KI housing made us to relax.  

Miscellaneous

I felt this opportunity was an excellent opportunity and made me feel some responsible towards my teaching role.I wish this programme should continue in future too .There can be some more sessions assigned to Indian faculty which will benefit swedish students.There can be sessions for faculty too which will make both groups to exchnage their views and share their merits from both sides.This experience in my opinion is an excellent opportunity for both students and faculty to mutually benefit and must continue. 

Other activities

I was able to observe the teachers activities in terms of their classroom preparation,simulation lab activities,virtual learning,virtual clinical learning and preparations by the faculty,and also the evaluation system and also the various systems of evaluation that is employed by faculty of community health nursing both theory and clinicals

The visits to various clincal sites were very useful to know how the students are able to have a very good clinical learning.

There is need for continuing the teacher exchange programme.We can aim to strengthen with research activities as there is a wider scope from both sides.

Preparation

I was informed by the Dean of our college of nursing,Christian medical College,vellore,Tamil Nadu,India.I contacted the previous team who had been under this programme.The KI International office has sent us the website to visit  which made us to get ready adequately.  

Reflections

Personally  this experience made me feel good and I wish to encourage my students self learning.This gave me an opportunity to introspect myself as how I can be an effective teacher to my students in both classroom and clinicals.

I wish to incorporate self learning strategies for senior students and the ways to integrate in my setting.I wish to  implement the virtual learning for my students to strengthen their learning.    

Teaching

I came to know the innovative teaching methods that are used by the faculty for their students.The evaluation methods employed were described in detail.I could observe the performance appraisal of student in community health.The  session that I had with a small group of students made me to feel good.I could understand how the faculty encourage the students to do lot of self learning and also assess themselves.I was very much thrilled and excited to see the wealth of library and the freedom students have towards their self learning.The classrooms are very conducive for learning.The students could freely express themselves and clarify their doubts.

The clincal learning for students was also excellent and they are able to have clinical teachers (preceptors) to educate them and they are very competent and committed to teach.I was able to observe that students were made to learn effectively in clinicals.The discussions that were held in clinicals made them competent.

I had an opportunity to attend an open seminar on Reclaiming and redefining the foundamentals of care; responding to the patient centered care agenda which was with international facuty which gave me a chance to say few words about what happens in India and made me also learn what is the position of patient care in other parts of the world.I express my sincere thanks for allowing me to attend this seminar   

 

SUGGESTION

May be in future somemore hours of sessions can be assigned for us with students which will enable us to interact with students formally also in the classroom too.

If there are any seminars or short courses conducted during the time of exchange programme the overseas faculty may be invited.   

Teaching hours

Most of our time was spent in the observation and learning in the clinicals and visiting various community health programmes were the students were sent for their clinical experience.very  less time was spent in teaching the students(2 hours).

The interaction in the clinical area with students and expressing to them how Indian students in my institution learn was a good experience for me.
